NSS Unit Celebrates Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri

 NSS unit of Dayananda Sagar Business Academy celebrated the 150^th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and 115^th birth anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri on 2^st October 2019. The program was conducted at the IVFloor seminar hall of the college. 

The chief guest was Mr. Vemagal Somashekar, a Gandhian who has done a lot of research and authored several books on Mahatma Gandhi. Dr. (Brig) Sandes, Principal and Dr. Veena K N, Dean were present for the celebrations. III Semester BCom B section NSS volunteers took an initiative and conducted the program under the guidance of NSS Program Officer Prof. Kasthuri Gopal. 

The program started with a prayer followed by a welcome speech. A floral tribute was paid to Gandhiji and Shastriji by the dignitaries. Then the chief guest Mr. Vemagal Somashekar was introduced to the audience.  He shared some interesting anecdotes from the life of Gandhiji.

He told how Gandhiji decided to be truthful and chose to be simple by narrating the childhood story of Gandhiji and his brother. Then he told how Gandhiji was specific about time and how his day began as early as 3:30 am. He thus advised the students to wake up early and make the best use of their time. He enlightened students with some more interesting episodes from Gandhiji’s life.

He also recalled many of Gandhiji’s preaches such as keeping the bathroom as clean as a kitchen etc. He then explained the importance of reading books citing examples of Gandhiji’s reading habit. One could understand the depth of his research and his respect towards Gandhiji by listening to his tremendously inspirational speech

Dr. (Brig) Sandes and Dr. Veena K N shared a few words about Gandhiji and Lal Bahadur Shastri and were thankful for Mr. Somashekar for sharing his knowledge with the NSS volunteers

Mr. Somashekar gifted the books he has authored to Dr. (Brig) Sandes, Dr. Veena K N and Prof. Kasthuri Gopal. He also gave few copies of “Gandhiji’s message to school children” to the students. A small token of gratitude was presented to Mr. Somashekar for spending his valuable time and motivating the students. The program concluded with a vote of thanks.
